On May 28, 1938, golfing legend Bobby Jones drove the first golf ball at Sharon Woods Golf Course. Bobby Jones, often confused with golf course designer Robert Trent Jones, was a  lawyer by profession and successful amateur golfer only part-time. In 1930, Jones won a “Grand Slam” consisting of victories in all four major golf tournaments of his era (the open and amateur championships in both the United States and the United Kingdom). After retiring from competitive golf, Jones founded and helped design Augusta National Golf Club and co-founded the Masters Tournament.

Sharon Woods Golf Course is Great Parks’ oldest and most active course. Approximately 45,000 rounds of golf are played each year!
